Story
Morden Little League - Girls 25th Anniversary Morden Little League is a registered charity (No: 803722) and affiliated to the Surrey FA, It provides FREE football for over 650 local children of mixed ability every Saturday morning. The League has been running for over 50 years and this year sees the 25th anniversary of the Girls’ Section. I was personally involved, both as a manager and a parent, from the inception of the girls’ section in 1994, when my own daughter started playing at the age of 10. Our theme From Grassroots to England aims to show how any child of any background can take part in football, totally free of charge and that with hard work and commitment can progress to represent their country. Casey Stoney MBE, Manchester United Ladies manager and former England Ladies Captain was one of the Girls’ League original players.
On Saturday 5th October 2019, we will be celebrating 25 years of Girls football at King George's Playing Fields, Tudor Drive, Morden. We will be having a parade at 9.30am and the current players will re-create the original Girls’ games from 1994. At midday, we will be having a friendly match involving many of the original players from 25 years ago. The League will then be hosting an evening celebration with a buffet and disco at Sutton United FC in Gander Green Lane, Sutton.
This year the London Borough of Merton are charging the league to use and maintain the football pitches but we would love to be able to continue offering FREE FOOTBALL FOR ALL CHILDREN of all abilities.
All ladies taking part in our 'Old Girls' Friendly are asked to get sponsors for this event and we thank you for taking part and we hope you enjoy the match.
Any support is gratefully received to help us with this 25th Anniversary celebration and to help us with this great organisation.
Thank you
