I've raised £1500 to Enable 200 girls in Kenya to attend school throughout 2018!

Every year millions of girls around the world are unable to attend school for one week of every month due to their menstrual cycle. This is because, they do not have the means to buy pads or any other sanitary products. Therefore unable to leave their homes during that time of the month. On a trip to Kenya, I had the privilige of meeting a courageous young woman with limited financial means, who supports a small number of girls on a monthly basis. Enabling them to go to school and receive the same level of education as their male counterparts. I wanted to help, but was unsure how this could be achieved on an ongoing monthly basis.
I have researched many options and until now, have been unable to find a sustainable solution to assist on this relatively small scale. I was introduced to Mary Namagambe the founder of 'She for She' a small business that currently supports women in Uganda and more recently in The Gambia. 'She for She', employ local women to manufacture reusable pads, that last up to 12 months. Packaged in waterproof bags to allow the young women to use and store until a convenient time to clean.

200 girls in Kenya have been identified to recieve support for the duration of 2018. There is an issue with access to clean water, so the money raised will cover both disposable and reusable pads, as well as hygiene workshops delivered to all 200 girls; this is to educate and enable the young women to use the products in an environment where clean water is scarce.
I will be travelling to Kenya and will form part of the team carrying out the hygiene workshops. I will report first hand on who will be receiving the pads. In return for your support, I will provide updates on the manufacturing process, hygiene workshops and feedback from recipients. Updates will be shared on this page and with everyone who provides an email address.
