Story

“Every minute without CPR or defibrillation reduces a person’s chance of surviving a cardiac arrest by around 10 per cent. Thousands more lives could be saved if the public were equipped with vital CPR skills, and had access to a defibrillator in the majority of cases."

Why Gissing needs a Difibrillator!

A real recent example

Date: 26/06/2018 Time: 10:28 am

Air Ambulance - Anglia One located at Norwich airport circa 20 miles away, was tasked to Gissing to assist the EEAST team with a man in his fifties who had suffered a cardiac arrest. Pilots Steve Norris and Rich Anderson landed the helicopter in a field adjacent to the scene.

Doctor Drew Welch and Critical Care Paramedic Luke Chamberlain provided enhanced A&E level care and specialist pre hospital care treatment, administered general anaesthetic and provided advanced airway intervention.

The patient was carried, by air, to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further treatment.

The Parish of Gissing is an agricultural settlement, mainly arable in character which lies circa 20 miles south of Norwich and 6 miles north of the market town of Diss in South Norfolk. It therefore has limited access to any nearby emergency medical care.

Dwellings are concentrated in three linked areas, Upper Street, Lower Street and Mill Green, each of which offers a variety of architecture, some of it listed. A conservation area has been established in order to protect the most valuable elements of both the natural and built environment. The greatest asset is the people and they deserve protection if required - a defibrillator is just one way of delivering this.

“Over the last five years great progress in introducing CPR training in more schools nationally has been happening."

"Public defibrillators across the UK can provide a vital lifeline for cardiac arrest victims until ambulance services arrive. A current innovative project will give every ambulance service immediate access to the location of defibrillators in their areas, so they can direct bystanders to their nearest life-saving device, especially important in rural parishes." Without our own defibrillator, Gissing residents could be at risk.

The Parish Council feel that a defibrillator would be a vital asset for Gissing and the public in general, therefore they wish to raise funds for a defibrillator for the parish.

British Heat Foundation will provide a public access defibrillator for £600 with us being a rural location providing that access is maintained 24 hours a day, where there is a commitment made to provide CRP training and we can raise funds to support the project.

The total installation cost would be around £1000. Therefore, we are starting by a straight forward appeal please can you donate £5 or more towards this project.

Please remember: "Every minute without CPR or defibrillation reduces a person’s chance of surviving a cardiac arrest by around 10 per cent - Gissing Parish is approx 10 minutes away from Diss".. Exactly why Gissing needs a difibrillator now... .Thanks in advance for your support.
