Row, Row, Row your boat..... (or machine!!)3 friends, taking on an epic Aussie challenge 🚣🏼‍♀️🦘

We are 3 women, friends, daughters, granddaughters- using 3 WaterRower rowing machines to row 17.5 MILLION meters, the distance from our Worthing office on the South Coast of England to Hobart, where the Wicking Dementia research and Education Centre is located in Tasmania- Australia. Not powered by engine, but by love, grief and the fierce hope that we can make a difference.

We're rowing for Dementia UK & St Barnabas House, causes that hit deeply close to home. Each of us have watched someone we love slip away piece by piece. Dementia doesn't just steal memories - it steals voices, laughter, connection and time. It doesn't just affect the person diagnosed - it changes the lives of everyone around them. There were days when we felt helpless watching the people we love fade. BUT we're not helpless now. This row is our way of fighting back. 💪🏼

Why this challenge?

Because rowing this kind of distance mirrors, in some way, what it's like to live through dementia: daunting, exhausting and deeply emotional. There are highs and heartbreaks. Moments of deep isolation and moments of wild hope. But, with the right support - like the kind Dementia UK's Admiral Nurses give you - you don't have to navigate it alone.

We're doing this for the people we have lost, for the families still fighting, and for the future we hope to help shape - one where no one walks the path of dementia without guidance, care and compassion. 💚

The journey ahead

We'll be rowing daily, for over a year, slowly but surely making our way to the goal, with the help of our friends and the community we will raise awareness of the number 1 killer in the UK and raise funds for these amazing charities. We expect aching muscles and many blisters along the way but compared to the daily battles faced by those living through dementia, it's a small price to pay!! 🩹
