Story
Hi everyone!
On Sunday 4th May 2025, I will be running the Belfast Marathon in aid of a charity close to me - Usher Syndrome Ireland.
Usher syndrome is a rare genetic condition that primarily affects hearing and vision. Its main symptoms include hearing loss and retinitis pigmentosa, which is a progressive eye disease that causes gradual vision loss.
It is the leading genetic cause of combined hearing and vision loss, also known as dual-sensory loss or deafblindness, affecting an estimated 400,000 people worldwide.
For those who may not know, my dad Gerard, my aunt, and two of my uncles live with Usher Syndrome. By running 42.2 kilometres, I hope to raise awareness of the condition.
Usher Syndrome Ireland's mission is to “promote and protect the health of those suffering from genetically inherited Usher Syndrome, through the provision of information for people affected by this condition, and by funding scientific research into the causes, treatment and cure of all types of the condition and publishing the useful results”.
All support will be extremely appreciated and go towards such an amazing cause!
Cheers x
