Story

Graeme Kennedy, who you will know as the Grounds Manager, based at Broomhall Recreation Ground, Sunningdale has been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. He has looked after the park grounds and other sites in the village for the past 19 years and helped the committee set up the carnival site each year. Graeme's dearest wish is to travel back to his home country of New Zealand once more to see the places he loves (like the view of Poor Knights Islands from the Tutukaka coastline in the picture above) and old friends he grew up with - to say goodbye.

The consultants have told him that he would be cleared by them as okay to travel but to break his journey and not to leave it too long. With this in mind, he is looking to travel around mid February via Seoul. This journey would be taken alone but he would be met by his family in New Zealand.

On his return from New Zealand, if well enough and funds permitting, along with his wife Sarah and two sons Jake and Jasper, he would also like to visit some places in the UK that he has never managed to get to - Liverpool and Whitby Bay for starters.

To all the locals and families who have enjoyed spending time at Broomhall Recreation Ground over the years, please donate and help us spread the word. Together we can make Graeme's dream a reality.
