Story
Graeme Kennedy, who you will know as the Grounds Manager, based at Broomhall Recreation Ground, Sunningdale has been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. He has looked after the park grounds and other sites in the village for the past 19 years and helped the committee set up the carnival site each year. Graeme's dearest wish is to travel back to his home country of New Zealand once more to see the places he loves (like the view of Poor Knights Islands from the Tutukaka coastline in the picture above) and old friends he grew up with - to say goodbye.
The consultants have told him that he would be cleared by them as okay to travel but to break his journey and not to leave it too long. With this in mind, he is looking to travel around mid February via Seoul. This journey would be taken alone but he would be met by his family in New Zealand.
On his return from New Zealand, if well enough and funds permitting, along with his wife Sarah and two sons Jake and Jasper, he would also like to visit some places in the UK that he has never managed to get to - Liverpool and Whitby Bay for starters.
To all the locals and families who have enjoyed spending time at Broomhall Recreation Ground over the years, please donate and help us spread the word. Together we can make Graeme's dream a reality.

The fund is still open if anyone would like to donate. One bit of very sad news - Sarah's mum was rushed into hospital last Friday night and died on Saturday evening - after much deliberation the family have decided to carry on with their trip. Please join me in wishing them a safe and enjoyable holiday and to give them all our sincere condolences. A village hug is much needed! 🤗

6 years ago18 October 2018. (Part 1) Good evening everyone. Having had a chat with Graeme over cake (again!) we wanted to let you know how things are with the Kennedy family. Graeme has very good days mixed in with some not so good but the team looking after him are so amazed by him. The power of our collective positive thoughts have helped keep him bouyant and determined - keep it up! They're off on their long awaited Northern Trip for half term week. Some quality family time, starting with Nottingham then Durham, York and across to Whitby Bay.

6 years ago24/5/18 Good afternoon everyone. Thanks once again for all the support and kindness you've given to Graeme. Collectively we've shown the family how much the community cares about them. What a great place to live! Lyme Regis beckons - starting tomorrow Graeme & Sarah will spend a week soaking up the sun and relaxing. Special thanks to facebook.com/SunningdaleHopeTrust/ for this wonderful, generous donation. Graeme & Sarah recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary - we took this pic at Saville Gardens on 7th May.
