What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

At the village of Great Paxton in Cambridgeshire we are raising money to fund a new memorial to honour the aircrew who died in a crash in the village. Their Lancaster bomber had taken off from RAF Graveley on another bombing mission to Cologne, Germany. It came down 75 years ago, around 3.45 on the afternoon of Christmas Eve 1944. It did not gain height though and having clipped the roof of a house in London Lane it crashed in a field near to what is now Brookside. All seven members of the crew were killed. The oldest was just 24 years old. At present there are no specific memorials to this crew. It will be placed on a grass verge of a private road near to the edge of village, in a location as near as we could find to the crash site. Just a brief update to say we are currently delayed in proceeding due to us having problems with the landowners agreeing to our proposed written agreement for the use of his land. They have never raised any objections but are very slow in replying to our messages. I will let you know when the work starts and then when the unveiling ceremony will be. Thanks again for your help. Graham

A quick update about the memorial. We are pleased about the money raised on here so far but we are not there yet. We are publicising it in many places such as the newspaper, radio, facebook and in the village. There will be a short wreath laying at the site at the time and anniversary of the crash on Christmas Eve and an unveiling ceremony sometime in the new year. Work should start in the near future. If you can share this with anyone that you feel may be interested, we would be grateful.
