Friends of Sri Lanka is a registered charity set up by Nicky & Graham Queripel.

This was set up following a visit to Sri Lanka and seeing that some 10 years after the Tsunami many people are still in need of help. Although there are many charities still helping out many of them seem to focus around children.

Nicky & Graham were upset to discover an old peoples home that was in need of help as they have no assistance from their government. Unless local villagers donated spare food daily the old people would go with out and without money they could not afford this or even medical treatment for the old ladies.

This upset Nicky & Graham so much they up the charity to raise funds to help the old ladies. To date through regular car boot sales numerous funds have been raised to secure medical treatments and drugs required, employ a full time carer to assist with the day to day running around the home and assist in helping the ladies and most of all ensure that food is available when there is nothing donated by the local villagers.

We are now raising funds to supply a stair lift to enable the ladies to use an upstairs out side sun area as well as the use of other rooms upstairs to house more residents. At the moment this is not possible as hey can not manage the stairs so this is why we are fund raising for this project. We ar arranging a charity aircraft pull fund raiser here at home in Guernsey to hep raise much needed funds. This will enable us to purchase and install the stair lift along with helping with some other projects such as building a well, supplying new kitchen appliances along with general maintenance of the home and hopefully employ a second member of staff to help.
