Story
Why We’re Raising Money
Graham Shaw is a much-loved family man, friend and a hugely respected figure within the local community. For decades, Graham has given his time, energy and heart to others, always putting people first, offering support, and quietly making a difference wherever he could.
Known especially for his unwavering commitment to Hindpool Tigers ARLFC. For more than 30 years, Graham has dedicated countless hours to the club as a player, coach and Chairman, helping to shape the lives of generations of young people through rugby league.
Hindpool Tigers ARLFC is more than a club, it is a family, and Graham has been at the heart of it for decades. His selfless service, leadership and passion for youth sport have left a lasting legacy within the club and far beyond it.
Beyond rugby league, Graham has always been someone who gives back. He has previously raised money for the RUMIC Trust, helping to fund a disabled bus for Barrow Island School, and also supported the Wheelchair Wildcats, raising vital funds to help provide inclusive sporting opportunities for wheelchair users. Supporting others has always come naturally to Graham.
Graham’s Diagnosis
In 2025, Graham was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, a life-changing diagnosis that has turned everything upside down for him and his family.
He is currently undergoing intensive treatment, including chemotherapy, and continues to face the physical, emotional and financial challenges that come with living with advanced cancer. Despite everything, Graham has shown remarkable strength, courage and determination throughout his journey.
Family at the Heart of This Journey
Graham is a devoted husband to his wife Lauren and a proud dad to their two teenage boys, Harry and Bobby. Like many families affected by cancer, their lives have been turned upside down.
This fundraiser is not only about supporting Graham through treatment, it is about helping to provide stability, reassurance and support for Lauren, Harry and Bobby during an incredibly difficult time.
Why We’re Fundraising
Alongside the emotional toll, cancer brings significant financial pressure. Graham is currently unable to work while undergoing treatment, and there are ongoing costs that are not always fully covered, including:
✔ Travel to and from hospital appointments
✔ Treatment-related expenses and specialist consultations
✔ Medication, recovery and rehabilitation support
✔ Day-to-day living costs during prolonged illness
✔ Ongoing and future care needs
This fundraiser aims to ease some of that burden so the family can focus on what truly matters, treatment, recovery and time together.
What Your Support Will Do
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Your support will help to:
✔ Reduce financial stress during treatment
✔ Support Graham’s recovery and ongoing care
✔ Provide stability for Lauren, Harry and Bobby
✔ Contribute to wider cancer support through charitable donations
✔ Show Graham and his family they are not facing this alone
Even sharing this page helps more than you may realise.
How the Funds Will Be Used
All funds raised will be used to support:
✔ Cancer treatment and recovery-related costs
✔ Travel and appointment expenses
✔ Support during periods Graham is unable to work
✔ Long-term care, comfort and quality of life
✔ Donations to Macmillan Cancer Support, Look Good Feel Better and CancerCare
Any remaining funds will be used to support Graham’s ongoing wellbeing as his treatment continues.
