Story
The Granary kicked off with Crowd Funding in March 2016 to set it up as a centre for teaching and exhibiting traditional skills and local artists. It is a venue for creative happenings, events, youth arts & adult classes running mostly evenings, holidays and weekends. Since opening in April the Granary has run 12 Willow weaving workshops, 20 Saturday Youth Arts sessions, 3 Home Education Art days, 6 life drawing classes, 2 exhibitions: one celebrating the vernacular with 9 local artists, one Satire exhibition with 7 local artists and two high profile satirists, 2 laughter yoga workshops, 1 gig with 3 musicians. Over 250 people have come through its doors and it has been a meeting point and shared making space for many artists. There is buzz about the venue and it aims to provide more shared studio space, more events & exhibitions, talks, theatre, rehearsal space, stone carving, basket making, copper sculpture, felt, printing and wood carving workshops, bursaries for Home Education children, a website showcasing Granary friends (anyone who exhibits or teaches there) and an online gallery with art to sell/ commission with features on local artists and cultural topics/debates. This project is being run by one single mum/artist and teacher and has become a full time dedication. The project offers so much but needs a help to buy extra heaters to keep the venue warm for workshops & art making through winter & to help cover rent & advertising costs during a time when footfall is not so high. The venue needs help with its website, extra signs, a few extra art materials and a small fund towards helping more young people access classes artists and to help artists with framing & printing costs. The Granary would like to be a space where ideas are exchanged, skills are taught, people are inspired and artistic projects are nurtured. If you can help please come and use/ enjoy the venue.
