Story

The beautiful Fazioli piano which belonged to the Rachmaninoff Music Academy was destroyed in the fire blaze at St Mark's Hamilton Terrace on the 26 January. Although the piano was insured, its replacement value is much higher that the original cost, hence the need for fundraising to cover the deficit.

Yevgeny Sudbin, concert pianist, comments:

"It was devastating to hear the news of the fire at St Mark’s Hamilton terrace which destroyed a beautiful Fazioli grand piano. Many wonderful concerts took place on this instrument over the last decade by the young students of the Rachmaninoff Music Academy. (Excerpt: https://youtu.be/vu5oXRw102c ).

It had some unique qualities that other instruments often lacked; a warm depth in the bass and beautiful cantabile at the top. It suited all repertoire which had been performed on it; from Bach/early Baroque to Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and late contemporary music. It was always a special occasion for the students to have had the opportunity to perform on it; whether solo in chamber music setting or with the orchestra."
