14th May 2016 is when our beautiful son Grayson arrived. A few days after being at home we were readmitted to hospital as he struggled to feed. This is were it all began. His unique features and low tone were picked up on being readmitted and bloods were taken as they suspected this was due to a genetic condition. The results didn’t give any answers but we were told Grayson had hypotonia (low muscle tone) and that this would effect his gross motor skills. Due to no diagnosis they had no idea of the outcome so we were referred to various specialists including a neurologist and physiotherapist and told to wait and see what further testing could show and to monitor his development. Shortly before his first birthday he started having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy which is now thankfully under control with medication and he has not let this get in his way.

In just two years Gray has shown determination to get on the move. It’s been a slow process and lots of physio and hard work and despite not being able to walk yet he is now pulling to stand & cruising around furniture. We were told by one of his specialists that if Grayson walks he could be 4,5,6 or 7. Age is just a number but the word “if” was the hardest word we have ever had to hear as parents. Now seeing how determined he is we feel confident that this day will come and it will be a milestone like no other.

It became more apparent as time went on that Grayson was also delayed in other areas. He has now also been diagnosed with GDD (global development delay) his fine motor skills are delayed and he is still none verbal. Despite this we are finding our own way to communicate which brings us on to our fund raising.

Grayson absolutely loves swimming and the outdoors. Trees & water are his absolute favourite! He really comes out of his shell and we feel his communication is at its best when he’s around things he loves. He is restricted to his buggy when out and about but after recently attending a sporting event he got the opportunity to try a specialist trike. It was wonderful to see Grayson taking part in something like this and it’s made us all determined as a family to make it possible for him to smash all of his dreams.

We have been in touch with a charity that want to try and help us fund the trike. They have said if we can try to raise half of the cost they would then put our application forward for them to possibly provide the other 50%. The trike itself costs £1900. We hope this will enhance his physio and one day allow him to ride a bike on his own.

We are aiming big for our super hero and would love nothing more than one day in the future to see him combine all of his favourite things and take part in a triathlon after being inspired by another little boy who went on to achieve this.

We need £1000 to present to the charity for them to take our application further. This is a huge amount of money for us so we are hoping to fund raise to make this possible. Early August we will be heading to the Peak District with Grayson in a child carrier backpack to walk Mam Tor together. Anything that you can sponsor us to do this would be greatly appreciated and bring us one step closer to getting Grayson the specialist trike. Grayson is still undiagnosed and currently part of an intensive genetic test which could take years to complete but we hope this will brings us some answers. In the mean time we know he will continue to smash those milestones with the support he needs. Wish us luck x x x
