Story
As an award-winning event focused on climate and community resilience, taking care of the site where we hold our festival is hugely important to everyone involved with The Green Gathering.
In 2019 and 2021 we undertook necessary work to make safe trees within Piercefield Park which were at risk of dropping limbs and making our festival unsafe.
While the work was carried out in an environmentally sympathetic manner, since then we have felt an increasing urgency to balance this tree surgery with regeneration of the site.
We're so excited! Our proposal to create an educational and celebratory grove of native trees within Piercefield Park has this week been approved by the site owners.
Our Green Gathering Grove will enhance local biodiversity; and it will provide a space for our community to celebrate and to remember with sadness, gratitude and joy people from our festival family who have died.
The trees we plant may be small but in time future generations will be wowed by them, as we are each year by the wondrous Wise Old Oak, grown from a tiny acorn planted in Piercefield Park's past.

2 years agoThank goodness it's raining! We were worrying about our baby trees and scampered over to the Grove when it was sweltering, to see how they were faring and share a little water with them. Great news: they're ok! We'll be having a 'Welcome to the Grove' on the first evening of the festival (Thu 4 Aug) for anyone there who'd like to come along at 10.30pm. Bring a torch or lantern. There will be music, memories & blessings. And we'll have trimmed back the bracken again by then! This winter we'll be planting more trees. Keep watching.

2 years agoHappy Summer Solstice! We've planted a STANDING STONE on our festival site: a memory stone; a huggable stone; a stone we can lean against when we remember friends who’ve died, when we grieve for lost biodiversity, and when we celebrate life with our community. We haven't quite raised enough funds to pay for the stone and to finish our grove of native trees but we are three-quarters of the way there, and with your help we know we'll complete the task. Thank you so much. Spread the word!

2 years agoI have super exciting news... Having planted the inner circle of our grove with native trees, and with a plan to plant two outer rings over the next two years, we've had the go-ahead to erect a standing stone in the centre, in time for this summer's festival! This will be a memory stone; a huggable stone; a stone we can lean against when we remember friends who've died, when we grieve for lost biodiversity, and when we celebrate life with our community. The crowdfund target has been raised to cover costs, please contribute if you can xx
