Story

Hi everyone

I am raising funds for my friend Adrian Selfe who is living with advanced stage Huntingtons Disease.

Huntingtons is a rare genetic disorder that affects the brain, and that gradually leads to loss of motor, cognitive and psychiatric functions. It affects approximately 5-10 people per 100,000 of European decent.

Ady and I have been friends since birth and we shared many adventures together before the disease took hold.

That was about 10 years ago.

Today Ady is unable to do the things many of us take for granted, like getting dressed, feeding ourselves and using the bathroom.

He needs full time care, which cost approximately R36,000 per month. His care costs are not covered by medical insurance.

Ady's happy place has always been the sea.

In honour of this I’m looking to raise funds to support Ady’s care by attempting the swim from Robben Island to Big Bay in Jan 2025.

The swim is about 7.5km in cold Atlantic water. I’ll be doing it solo, without a wetsuit and accompanied by a safety boat. The swim is something I've always wanted to try, but if I can use it to raise some cash then all the better.

So, please can I ask everyone who knows Ady and would like to make a donation towards his care to do so here. And if you don't know him but know me, and are up for sponsoring my swim, please do!

Every pence / cent raised will go directly to his care. I am covering all costs of the swim and all fees associated with this platform.

Every pound / dollar / rand really will make a difference.

Greg
