"Reaching the summit of a mountain gives great satisfaction, but nothing for me has been more rewarding in life than the result of our climb on Everest, when we have devoted ourselves to the welfare of our Sherpa friends." - Sir Edmund Hilary.
After last year's adventure to the top of Kilimanjaro (5895m) and raising money for a local Tanzanian charity, for this year's adventure in to thin air I'm off to Nepal and the Himalayas.
A 12 day Trek through the Khumbu will take us up to Everest Base Camp (5360m) and then up to Kala Patthar (5550m) for spectacular views of Everest itself.
No trekking or mountaineering expedition would be possible here without the help of the Sherpas. Every year Sherpa porters and climbers risk their lives repeatedly going up and down mountains like Everest for not very much money ferrying supplies for expeditions to have a chance at climbing the highest mountains in the world.
I want to raise money that would benefit their local communities so money raised will go to the Sherpa Eucation Fund and the Himalayan Trust that do great work in providing education and resources to these communities.
