    Story

Hello and thank you for coming to donate on Tom's page & if you don't know who Tom was then please do read a bit about him and the importance of his Foundation.

I will be throwing myself into 2 challenges this year to raise as much as I can for Tom's Foundation, and I'm aiming high at £5k!! so do please give all you can, every bit counts. . .First of all I will be taking on the "welsh 3000's in 24hrs & the 2nd will be a bit more adventurous as I will be travelling to Ecuador to spend 2 weeks climbing the "Avenue of Volcanos", both very tough and challenging challenges but for such a worthwhile cause. If you would like to know more about Tom's foundation & what we are doing then please visit Facebook or Instagram and search for the "Tom Furey Memorial Foundation"

As I write this, we are just coming up to a year since we lost Tom in a tragic climbing accident.

To best describe Tom, personally... Well he was like a 2nd son to me & loved the same. I had the pleasure of meeting "Jnr" as I fondly called him when he was a young 18yr old man just at the early stages of his outdoor career. Tom was a whirlwind of enthusiasm and cheekiness and I hit it off with him instantly, often reminding me of my younger self only a lot more knowledgeable but equally as full as confidence! Tom had joined us as our 3 peaks guide for a fundraiser we were doing at the time, as quite a fresh faced mountain leader, but keen to compare all the adventures we'd both had around the world,. I have very fond memories of sitting on the side of Ben Nevis on the first day of knowing him & talking about our families & our lives, Tom quickly became "unofficially" my adopted son, and names Jnr & Old Man stuck! When ever we were out together in the latter years (once I couldn't keep up with him anymore) you would hear " hurry up old man, what's the matter cant you keep up"!! Always one for making you dig down and push on! There is truly never a day that goes past where I don't think of him or miss him dearly.

Over the years, Tom & I had some great adventures. From Ice Climbing in Norway to venturing into the Himalayas and so much more, despite the 20 year + difference I just loved to sit and chat with Tom putting the world to rights and was always interested in his views and advice he quite often shared, he always had time for a chat & would offer his help and experience to anyone. Tom was so knowledgeable for his age and years ahead with his skill level & experience and someone I trusted regularly with my life on the end of a rope. He was loved by all his friends, even when he was annoying the hell out of them and was highly regarded by his peers.

We simply lost one of life's true gems! Tom was always so psyched to get out and do everything. Nothing was ever done in half measures, from throwing his all into running ML courses despite desperate welsh weather to guiding people in the French Alps and only complaining when his favorite cheese wasn't available, to giving his everything in family life .He always went above and beyond for everyone." he was so well known, so well regarded & he came into so many peoples lives through his work. Loved to the core by his fiancé Katie, who like Tom is just the loveliest person you could ever meet & lives for the outdoors, And loved by all his friends & family.

The aim of the Trust is as follows: “The advancement of education and training, for the public benefit, in the skills necessary for safe walking and mountaineering, in particular but not exclusively through the provision of grants to those experiencing financial hardship to enable them to access training in walking and mountaineering that they could not otherwise afford.” He left a huge whole in so many of our lives, this trust is just a small way of us saying thank you for everything he did for us all.

Please do donate all you can, no matter how small as it all counts. Thank you
