We are doing a walk up Snowdon Mountain which is 3,560ft high, with friends, family & co workers to raise money to help my brother, Greg, & his wife, Nicki, through a very stressful time for them. My brave Brother is has just gone onto the waiting list for a Double Lung Transplant!

Greg has Cystic Fibrosis and has gradually lost lung capacity and is now at 28%. We have calculated with the expected 12 - 18 month recovery process, if all goes to plan, if we can raise anything £5,000 or more we can seriously really help my brother and his wife, so much so he can get well, with Nicki by his side.

Below is some information for what this money will go towards helping them with!

Fuel Costs

⁃From their home to the Harefield hospital is 137 miles (274 miles round trip) which means fuel costs stack up considerably.

⁃They’ll be travelling back and forth for: ongoing clinic appointments before the transplant.

⁃False alarms: they will potentially get many calls for new lungs, meaning going down to the hospital but being told often at the last minute once prepped for theatre that for varying reasons the lungs are not suitable for transplant.

⁃Post transplant once Greg has been discharged he will need weekly visits to the hospital which start off twice every week, then once a week, then every two weeks etc until eventually once a month - this period of slowly reducing the appointments usually takes 12 months.

Other costs

⁃Greg’s not been well enough to work due to ill health the last 18 months and post transplant will not be able to work for at the very least one year, often longer.

⁃Nicki, Gregs wife, will have to take time off work unpaid potentially pre transplant if he gets ill to the point he needs this care, but certainly from the day of the surgery onward for a period of probably months while recovering she will need to be there for him.

⁃The usual stay in hospital post transplant can be from around a month to 3 months but this can increase to many more months if their are any complication. For Nicki to stay at the nearby hospital accommodation the cost is £50 per night.
