Story
So far in 2017 a total of 86 large animals have been killed on Dartmoor. This is 75 Sheep, 10 ponies and 1 Cow. These animals have the right of way on Dartmoor. They are unpredictable and do not understand traffic and therefore can often act in a way not expected. Accidents will always happen but by driving at 40 mph at least the animals stand a chance that you will stop. Quite recently a driver was clocked at 117mph which is selfish and totally thoughtless. To hit an animal at that speed is almost certainly going to be fatal for all involved.
What I want to do is produce car stickers, posters and leaflets which highlight the problem and raise the awareness. These speeders have families so perhaps through them we can bring pressure on this small minority of people who want to spoil it for us all. Please remember every time a vehicle hits an animal at speed the driver, be it a husband, wife, brother or sister may also be killed. Help me to prevent this.

7 years agoThings have been a bit busy of late but I thought it time for an update on where we are with the campaign. The Yellow Signs have all been paid for and we are still waiting for one sponsorship payment to come in. When it does we will have a total of £1455.50. We will then have whatever has been collected on this page to add to it. Still a month to go so if you have not yet given please do so here, this is our second page. With Christmas looming I will wait until the New Year before starting on our literature campaign.

7 years agoWwhilst it may seem that it has all gone quiet with no money coming in that is not the case. We have now found five sponsors for our new signs with only one more to find. Each sign is costing £78 so this makes an addittional £390 that has been raised. Even so we still need more so please, please give what you can. Don't just sit back and let others do it, be part of this change and know you helped make a difference.

In the meantime instead of just standing still we are forging ahead with our other idea of temporary signs. I currently have pledges for four and I need six. So I think we are doing well on this. I have been quoted £65 plus vat making £78. They will look similar to this one,

I am the chair of the Parish Council and have lived on the Moors for eleven years. The landscape is stunning and the free roaming animals are a wonderful sight. I think we need to protect this beautiful place. Please drive more slowly, protect the animals.
