Story

50*50*50*50* March

On Wednesday 13 June 2018, I will be a member of a team of 50 Light Infantry veteran soldiers of all ages embarking on a 50 mile sponsored walk to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Light Infantry. The walk has a target to raise £50k for the Light Infantry Association. This very worthy cause uses funds raised to help veterans in need, assists families and widows and supports the annual reunion.

I doubt there will be much ‘doubling’ going on as many of us probably carry bad knees, bad hips, bad lungs, or just plain old! I’m sure our years of training will carry us through and I am sure there will be a bugle or two! As well as the worthy cause, I am very much looking forward to catching up with old colleagues, renewing friendships and sharing memories. Military service is a bond that survives missing years after demob.

The 50 mile march starts in Hereford and finishes in Shrewsbury, the home of the Light Infantry. The Friday afternoon arrival is perfect timing for the start of the 2018 annual reunion weekend, the Parade and more reminiscing over a well-earned beer or two.

My contribution to this fundraising is £1000. Please support me in this endeavour. Your donation will help the Association continue to support veterans and their families. No matter how big or small the amount donated, all donations will be gratefully received. Please donate and comment to create my story of this event.

Thanking you all in anticipation.
