Story
The Grenfell Tower tragedy is absolutely heartbreaking. You can't even begin to imagine really what people there must be going through. It's devastating.
As I watch in timelines or on the news on the tv it is great to see how a whole nation can get together in a time of crisis. Boxes upon boxes of food, clothes, and provisions. I had to then ask myself "what can I do?"
An image caught my eye amounsgt the many I have seen surrounding Grenfell Tower fire. I can't find it now, but this one in particular caught my attention. It was of one of the brave, heroic firefighters, and it knocked the wind right out of me.
It is very apparent to me that the brave men and women that stepped up to that building are going to need some help themselves now. There experience that morning will change the rest of there lives.
I know from personal experience how long it takes on the NHS to get access to the sort of services these grave firefighters are going to need. This wait could be further devastating to the potential health and well-being of the firefighters. Who also have family's, partners, and children who will also be impacted.
So, my aim of this fund raising is to provide as big a pot of funds as we all possibly can to give to the firefighters charity, but dedicated to providing help, support, therapy or what ever is needed to the firefighters of Grenfell Tower.
I've perhaps set an ambitious target of £7000. There were 200 firefighters that came to Grenfell Tower, so the news reports.
The NHS websites suggest that the cost of a one hour session with a private therapist costs somewhere between £10 and £70.
I've found a middle ground of £35, at least this would be half the cost covered. Per firefighter equates to £7000.
