    Story

We are a group of ice sports enthusiasts who are seeking your help to ensure the continued provision of an ice rink in Grimsby.

There has been an ice rink in Grimsby since the early 1900's, and the current rink has stood since 1975. We are home to the UK's oldest ice hockey team - the Grimsby Red Wings - who have played since 1932!

The rink holds weekly mum-and-tot, disability-friendly and disco sessions, as well as being home to 4 ice hockey teams (RedWings, Ice Bears & Stormers & Lightnings), 4 figure-skating coaches and puts on regular ice shows.

Unfortunately our beloved rink has been put in the 'cross hairs' of cost cutting exercises by the local government. We are looking for your help to ensure our rink doesn't fall victim to the latest round of closures, and to help us provide a place for our local community to enjoy the wide range of ice activities it offers.

The money raised will be used to help our bid to run the rink as a community; safeguarding it's future as a cornerstone of the local community, and to perform essential maintenance & renovation the rink desperately needs.

By donating the price of a cup of coffee, you're helping us to provide a safe sporting arena for the Torvill & Deans & Wayne Gretzkys of the future. We're always saying how the kids these days don't have anywhere to go or anything to do; so help us keep our rink open and give them a venue to enjoy for years to come.

Fantastic Result at last nights full council meeting! They have made available in the budget funds to keep the rink open for at least 6 months. This is to give us time to work with the Community Asset team to facilitate a Community Asset Transfer. We are all so excited but now the hard work really starts. Please keep sharing and remember that all donations no matter how small are really appreciated. http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/live-council-vote-on-grimsby-ice-rink-closure-and-next-year-s-budget/story-30158822-detail/story.html

Great article in The Grimsby Telegraph from the U11's match yesterday. We had 4 Councillors take time out of their Sunday afternoon to come down and chat with us. Of which we are very grateful. We have now been invited to present the proposal to NELC's working group this Wednesday afternoon and we are hopeful that they will see that it is a viable option. Our stumbling block will be a lack of capital so please keep sharing! Thank you for your support!

Thursday 23rd February is the day when NELC will vote whether or not to CLOSE Grimsby Ice Rink in its current format (i.e. being operated by Lincs Inspire) If they do then allow us to run the rink as a community we will need funds to open the doors. The £50000 we are trying to raise will be used to change the access points and provide disabled toilets and baby change facilities. We also want to refurbish the barriers and floors. We cant do these things without some start up capital. Please help us by donating what you can!
