Story
Two years ago I had the honour of being part of the development of Grimsby's Viking Journey, a journey that resulted in two fantastic festivals. these were made possible by Grant funding from the Heritage Lottery fund. That funding has come to an end.
But Vikings don't give up!
I said I would do all in my power to keep the journey going, and I will. In the epic story of Havelok the Dane, his step father Grim walks from Grimsby to Lincoln to sell his best fish for the best price to bring back the things needed by his people.
How can I do any less.
On the 24th July, the eve of the feast day of St James the fisherman, I will depart from St James Square in Grimsby and walk, in Viking costume and carrying a pannier of fish, the 34 miles to Lincoln, and on the bridge over the Witham in Lincoln I will put down my burden, just as Grim, and Havelok did in our famed legend.
By doing this I hope to raise the funds to cover the operating costs of a small Viking event in Grimsby to be held in September. This event is underwritten by my company Lindissi CIC (a not-for profit organisation) and hosted by Grimsby in bloom. There are lots of unglamerous things to be done to make an event happen, toilets to be provided for the public, water supplies for the participants, site security overnight. For one person, these are considerable expenses, but if lots of people contribute, a little can go a long way.
And why am I doing this, why is it worth you contributing?
Because that is what hero's do.
