Story

Many of you know me as Grindstone Foundation and my catchphrase "It's a lovely day in Ballymena" I'm Glenn Wilkinson and I have many passions in life, namely Faith, Family and Fitness.

Recently I've been privileged to meet a really special girl called Adelle who also has a passion. Adelle's passion is Uganda, specifically the people, the men, women and children of this great nation. I believe we've met for a reason which will become clear below!!!

I am very blessed to have a social audience that results in millions of views across Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook and it's not just about ME!!!!, it's about promoting positivity, my philosophy and way of life and using what I have for good.

I'm going to let Adelle share some of what she does and what her current greatest need is:

"Hi, my name is Adelle & I'm the founder & director of a small charity in rural Uganda called Amaka Gobusingye, which in English means, "Family Of Peace".

Im a 33 year old, Christian mother who first came to Uganda in 2018.

I knew without a doubt that Uganda was the calling over my life!

In 2019 I moved permanently to a small village in rural Uganda where I have been serving 3 communities ever since.

In 2020 we started to build a mission campus, where today we live together & take guardianship of 19 individuals daily needs.

Amaka built a 5 room, multi purpose building where we run many programs each week, including, a bible class each Saturday followed by our feeding program where we feed 100+ children a hot meal.

Within this building we also teach a nursery class daily, we have a tutoring class, a ladies tailoring vocational class, a young farmer club, a bee hive program and short term courses such as bakery.

Amaka also supplies the community with solar systems, mattresses, and essentials when the need arises.

We also supply the community with animals, coffee & skills for sustainability & independence.

Amaka has installed 2 boreholes where they serve 1000's of individuals fresh water daily. Before the community had no choice to drink water from the swap or from the dam!!

Water borne diseases were challenging every home in 2021! But in 2025, these challenges have subsided tremendously due to access of clean water.

Amaka has many areas of outreach, such as medical outreach, where we have partnered with a very professional and well equipped small hospital. Malaria, Typhoid, Syphilis & Brucella disease are some of the diseases which impact the community we serve!

The journey to the hospital is around 35 minutes away with most of the journey on dirt, off back roads.

In rainy season the roads are a very big challenge.

Our only means of transport is a 2 wheel motorcycle which we call "boda boda".

Ladies in labour only have this option of transport!!

If Amaka had a 4 wheel vehicle, the community at large would be impacted dramatically. Challenges on transport to the hospital would be vanished & Amaka would better be able to serve the community.

Amaka also has 66 children within sponsorship, ranging from nursery classes to A'level.

If we had a vehicle, we would be able to be efficient with school runs, emergencies, and daily life errands.

In 2024 we had a phone call that our friend got hit by a large falling tree in the forest. We had no choice but to embark on a 35 minute journey with him on the back of a motorcycle, one person driving, and another holding his unconscious body!

We got to the hospital and our friend was in critical condition. Praise the Lord, and by his grace, our friend made a slow & challenging recovery.

If we had of had a vehicle at that time, the journey would not have been as traumatic & vital time would have been drastically saved.

We have sooooo many other stories and examples of where a car or truck would have made a massive difference.

A vehicle can truly save a life when emergencies of rural Uganda happen!

Amaka has to hire a vehicle many times a month, especially on restocking our food bank. When we go to town and buy 100's of kilos of dried foods and transport them back to Amaka to store for when emergencies arise.

If Amaka had its own car, vital funds could be saved each month as well as time.

If you would love to get involved with Amaka we welcome you with open arms. Amaka would love your support if God leads you & we pray blessings over you in return.
