Story
After experiencing the NHS's best Hospitals in Scotland & England.
Come the day of the 8th July 2015 - Our son Griogair was born prematurely (26weeks) 2lbs 3oz in Kent.
When a baby is born so prematurely, babies' can take hours/days to stabilize.
Many children that are born so extremely prematurely, are lucky to survive the first 24/48 hrs of life.
(There are currently a few new revolutionary pieces of medical equipment in development to help aid Dr's in saving babies lives). *keep your eyes open*
Whilst in intensive care, Griogair developed a condition called Necrotising Enterocolitis, followed by a perforated bowel.
- After receiving an alarming call from the hospital in Kent, we found ourselves enroute with Griogair journeying to Brighton's TMBU for him to have surgery.
(Not being able to play mother to your newly born child is an indescribable feeling).
You grieve!
On our arrival to Brighton - we learned Griogair had suffered from horrific brain bleeding.
Was he going to survive Bowel surgery on top of this?
(His brain injury lead to his eventual passing many weeks later).
- When Griogair was first born, it initially took around 10 hrs for us to see him whilst various intensive care measures were being implemented.
In this period, a mother to a healthy fullterm child is generally bonding & feeding their baby.
(The worry & distress is something that sticks with you).
I doubt we'll ever forget the horrific emotional roller coaster that having Griogair prematurely brought (not to broach on living in hospital for months) The Grieving process...
A baby stuck in NICU / SCBU has such an impact on family life.
A massive thank U to the Dr's & Nurses who have helped us cope!
This Appeal, - is to help Fundraise towards, and donate - a specialist piece of hospital equipment to the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton.
We'd be very grateful if you would please help us fundraise in Griogair's memory. X
