Story

Gloucestershire Recovery in Psychosis (GRiP)

Grip team

Early Intervention in Psychosis teams are community mental health teams that work with young people aged between 14 and 35 who are at risk of experiencing (at risk mental state or ARMS) or who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis

Typically, Early Intervention teams work in the community and will try to meet with people in a place where they feel most comfortable.

The two main symptoms of psychosis are:

hallucinations – where a person hears, sees and, in some cases, feels, smells or tastes things that aren't there; a common hallucination is hearing voices

delusions – where a person has strong beliefs that aren't shared by others; a common delusion is someone believing there is a conspiracy to harm them

The combination of hallucinations and delusional thinking can cause severe distress and a change in behaviour.

Experiencing the symptoms of psychosis is often referred to as having a psychotic episode.

10% : 1 in 100 people will experience a psychotic episode in their lifetime

in this year i aim to complete 4 half marathons across the country with the aim of fundraising for Grippers
