Story

“When we tug at a single thing in nature, we find it attached to the rest of the world.” John Muir

Growing Sudley CIC is a community business based in the Sudley Estate, Liverpool. Our mission is community health, wellbeing and play through nature, plants and herbs. Since 2017 we’ve worked with the local community to bring the previously abandoned Victorian walled garden back to life, with the aim of making it accessible to everyone. The garden is maintained by a team of volunteers, and enables urban connection to nature through forest school, therapeutic horticulture, community herbalism and much more. Much of our work is free, or low cost: we believe that financial hardship should not be a barrier to engagement with the natural world.

In 2025, we opened The Changing Rooms Therapy and Wellbeing Centre, a low-carbon retrofit of the Sudley Estate’s animal husbandry building (more recently football changing rooms) creating a calming and restorative space for healing and growth. The Changing Rooms is a social enterprise, and any profits support our therapeutic work in the walled garden.

Our ethos across the whole of the organisation is strongly centred around the environment and the protection of nature. We do not use damaging chemicals and pursue a permaculture approach to our work. We take the effect of our actions on nature into account across all our work and operate a triple bottom line: people, planet and profit.

Your donation will support our free community workshops and events, and the general running costs of the Walled Garden.
