OVERVIEW

Hey everyone!

We are a group of enthusiastic 2nd-year Film students raising money for our final project this year, and we need your help. We’re currently in pre-production, and are quickly approaching those final few weeks before shooting. The money raised would go towards covering the cost of Locations, Production Design, and getting our film to festivals once completed.

STORY

At the heart of ‘GROWN’ lies a detached, twenty-something-year-old Tilly, whose father’s death calls for her return to Sweden. She must now muster the strength to embark on a physical and emotional journey back home, trying to heal old wounds whilst seeking personal and familial closure.

CHARACTERS

Tilly (Female, 23) -

A tragic event in the past has caused Tilly to alienate herself from her family and seek comfort in plants and pottery instead. This cocooned world soon comes crashing, when she begins receiving an influx of calls from ‘Mamma’ - a title which in other cases would suggest a bosomed relationship- summoning her back to Sweden to attend her father’s funeral.

Liz (Female, 59) -

Liz is the owner of a pottery shop that acts as Tilly’s source of income as well as her occasional refuge. It is this particular eccentricity and obsession of Liz’s with vibrant colours, which help displace both Tilly and the viewer from the bleakness of reality.

Emil (Male, 20) -

Emil is Tilly’s younger brother, who has remained at his mother’s side ever since his sister’s departure. Though blunt, Emil attempts to rationalise and talk sense into Tilly to make her realise why she needs to return to Sweden.

Ebba ( Female, 47) -

Ebba is Tilly’s mother, whom she has become estranged from. Though previous efforts of contacting her daughter have proved futile, Ebba is adamant on getting a hold of Tilly, in hopes of reconciliation and emotional closure - something which only accentuates her antagonistic character further, as perceived by Tilly.

GOALS

We want to create a film which explores the themes of social alienation and grief in a nuanced and authentic way, allowing for an intimate look into the effects of bereavement on individual and familial relationships.

Our goal of £1000 should be enough to cover expenses within each department - most importantly being Art and Locations - allowing for a smooth and efficient shoot.

RISKS

The biggest risk to our production is COVID-19. Not only has it impacted the country, but has also had a significant effect on the creative industry as a whole. As a result this has forced a total rethink of approaches previously accustomed to, in turn reinforcing our problem-solving skills and thinking outside of the box. As a crew, we understand the risks that COVID-19 poses to us and our production, and aim to take every measure to minimise this.
