Climbing Kilimanjaro in support of Guernsey Kidney Patients Association
In August 2024 I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in support and to raise much needed donations for the GKPA (Guernsey Kidney Patients Association).
Last year when a friend suggested the idea of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro I couldn’t turn down the opportunity. Whilst thinking about taking on such an epic challenge, I thought of no better way of keeping myself motivated, than completing it to support a charity.
I wanted to help this local charity as it is unknown on the island. Unless you, or someone you know has chronic kidney disease, is on dialysis, or has had a kidney transplant, it is unlikely you have heard of the GKPA charity.
The GKPA charity itself supports all renal patients, from comforts whilst recieving dialysis, to necessities for patients and their family. They have provided kindles for dialysis patients to use whilst they are recieving dialysis in the Renal Unit which can take up to 4 hours, 3 days a week. They also help to cover medical travel costs for patients and their family members if required. These are just a few examples of the amazing work the charity undertakes. They are there to make the patients life a little bit easier.
