Story

The Youth of Guinea Bissau need your support. Thank you for donating.

My name is Melissa Badinca, I'm 21 and I have recently graduated university. I was born in Portugal and I now live in England, UK. My family is originally from the beautiful, Guinea Bissau, a small little country in West Africa filled with potential.

Guinea Bissau, (GB), faces many challenges as a country, and is now one of the poorest countries in the World. 19% of the children in GB are affected by malnutrition. Unemployment is high and many young people are left with nothing to do. Something needs to be done.

I have started The ‘GBY Project’, as I believe it will be extremely beneficial to the young people who will take part. The project aims to encourage the youth of Guinea Bissau to pursue sustainable enterprise ideas to positively change their own communities. The project also aims to promote youth empowerment, because after all, they are our future.

In April, 2018 I will be going to the Bissau & Bafata regions, meeting with community leaders to discuss local concerns and run community workshops for the youth in the area. All money raised will go towards the GBY workshops. The workshops will have different themes depending on the particular community and the ages of the participants. Please email me directly for more information: melissabadinca@gmail.com.

Thanks for taking the time to donate, I appreciate it a lot, its for a great cause.

Please visit: @guineayouth on Instagram for regular updates & http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-13443186 for a quick summary of Guinea as a country. GBY website coming very soon.
