Story
Earlier this year I went trekking in Nepal. I spent a week with a wonderful guide called Mingmar Sherpa . Over the week I learnt that Mingmar also helped out at a local school (he's the guy in the blue shirt and red scarf handing the items to the children in the photo). He tries to support the children there, especially those who lost their family in the earthquake (of which there are 7) by getting them the materials they need. Apparently each child needs about £200 to cover their costs for the year, so I've chosen a target of £1400 as that would cover everything the orphaned children would need this year. That being said, the money won't necessarily just go to those 7 children, but might be used for other children at the school as well, but I thought it made a good target.
The following is Mingmar's description of what the money would be used for:
"Actually the people there are very poor, though it is a government school, they are so poor that they don’t have enough to pay the school and live a well life, they hardly can afford their food and clothes, also their life has been more problematic scince the earthquake, the small mud houses they had are also mostly destroyed and they are living in tents and temporary houses, the children there cannot get learning materials like notebooks, stationery’s and bags. The money we raise would be used to buy the children their notebooks, stationery, school bags and other learning materials which will help them study better and any money leftover would be used as payment of school fees (sponsorship) for the children. This is needed because they extremely lack the learning materials which are compulsory for a normal school.
The main point is they already had enough problems before, but after the earthquake, education and learning has been a great deal for the children as they are poor, we help them by giving them what they extremely lack for their studies."
I intend to transfer the money directly to Mingmar who will then work with the school to get the things the kids need.
