Story

Tom and Ryan are walking the full length of Hadrian’s Wall from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend over four days - Monday 14th to Thursday 17th - covering approximately 20 miles a day.

We work on an intensive care ward (PICU) together within a psychiatric hospital setting serving adults in acute psychiatric crisis. Activities are organised to enrich the patient experience and improve recovery rates and outcomes. The budget allocated to this area is minimal and often relies on charitable donations.

After almost 5 years working on PICU Tom is moving to pastures new. Tom is a nurse who has had his own battles with mental health and is currently on sick leave with stress and anxiety. He wants to generate as much funding as possible for the PICU before he leaves as an acknowledgement of how much the past 5 years have taught him and the great deal of love and appreciation he feels for the patients and staff on the ward.

Tom is being supported by the Trust to move to a different setting with a slower pace and is looking forward to the challenges and changes that will come with this.

Donations to this cause would not only make a huge difference to patients and staff but would also make what will be an emotional departure a great deal easier.

Ryan has been working on the ward as a bank nurse for some time now and only works on PICU, he has been bitten by the PICU bug too! Ryan is a dedicated and compassionate individual with a love for outdoor pursuits and a military background. Ryan is relishing the opportunity to raise money for the ward he loves and is looking forward to a well earned if arduous walking holiday.
