Story

I have recently been diagnosed with cancer. For me, the hardest part isn't the treatment, the needles or the hospital setting. Believe it or not, the thing I am most upset about is losing my hair. That may sound silly or vain, but I'm only 24. I just want to look normal. As a student my 'income' means I cannot access a free synthetic NHS wig. The government do not take into account that my student loan only covers my fees and my accommodation. I don't see any of it! If I was under 16, I would get it for free. I'm still being treated on a 'young person's' ward, funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust. The only reason I am able to access one funded wig is through The Little Princess Trust. I was lucky. Without them I'd face paying £700-£1000 for a real hair wig. There is no way I could afford that. As far as I am concerned, no young person should have to pay for a consequence of their cancer treatment. I want to give something back to the charity who are making it possible for me to walk out the door each morning. Before this treatment takes all of my hair, I am going to shave it off in the hope that it can make a wig for somebody else one day. I'm asking for donations so that I can help fund a wig for other patients who aren't as lucky as I have been. Thank you.
