We’re raising money for our amazing Hamza
We raised funds a couple of years ago for Hamza’s build & have had planning permission approved last month. Due to Covid 19 & the pandemic building materials have increased significantly & our builder has requoted double the amount originally quoted. We are in desparate need to bring Hamza on to the ground level, so hoping you can help towards this dream come true!
Hamza was born with a rare chromosome disorder, Smith Magenis Syndrome. Smith-Magenis syndrome is a developmental disorder that affects many parts of the body. The major features of this condition include mild to moderate intellectual disability, delayed speech and language skills, distinctive facial features, sleep disturbances, and behavioral problems. He also is visually impaired and had surgery in both eyes at 4 months due to congential cataracts and artificial lenses were inserted. Unfortunately Hamza has lost his sight and has gone blind in his left eye this June due to trauma, he’s now registered as severely visually impaired. Due to Hamza’s behavioral issues he self harms numerous times a day and we believe he has hit his eye and causing damage.
Hamza is 8 years old, he is non verbal and does not walk which means we have to lift him around the house getting in and out of car, putting him in wheelcair etc. Lifting him is becoming difficult and challenging as he grows and getting heavier, it would be a dream come true for him to have a ground floor bedroom with a wetroom attached. This would benefit us hugely as will mean not lifting him up and down the stairs and in and out of the bath as this is causing us back pain. Also due to Hamza’s behavioural problems and sudden outbursts and meltdowns which can occur at anytime, theres a huge risk of falling on the stairs when these outbursts occur. He has major sleep disturbances, awake throughout the night and sleepy during the day this is linked to his syndrome and as you can imagine its having a huge affect on our lives, health and sleep! Hamza has a younger brother and sharing a bedroom is just going to be impossible for both our children.
We contacted the council for disabled facilities grant, we were told we would need to contribute some of the costs as its above the amount that can be granted which was way beyond our reach and they were asking for too much. So we have decided to go down the route of taking it in to our own hands and raise enough funds to build something suitable for Hamza. Our house was inspected to see if it was adaptable in anyway, but our hallways are too narrow to get a wheelchair around Hamza’s bedroom is currently upstairs and wouldn’t be able to get wheelcair to the bathroom as needs turning and bathroom is small. The plan is to build to the rear of the property where it will be easily accessible to get in and out of the back gate from the car to his bedroom on the ground floor.
We’re trying to raise funds to have a better quality of family life where we can have peace of mind knowing he’s on one floor and safe during the day and night.
Any amount donated is much appreciated ❤️
Zakat is also accepted..
We really appreciate all donations given no matter the amount.
