Story

On 27 November 2021, Nick suffered terrible burns in an accident which had life changing consequences. Following the accident Nick was airlifted to Salisbury District Hospital from Jersey and placed into the ICU/Burns unit.

Nick remained in Salisbury until 1 February 2022. While in Salisbury, Nick had many operations and ultimately suffered the amputation of all the fingers and thumb on his left hand.

Nick has remained very positive in his outlook, relearning the most basic day to day tasks and taking up golf again with the use of a soft prosthetic. You will never hear Nick complain about anything and he always wants to make sure other people around him are okay.

Nick has long term goals, and this is where we can help him by crowdfunding. A company, Naked Prosthetics, specialise in getting people back to work and able to participate in the activities of daily living. They have created highly engineered functional fingers to meet a previously unfulfilled need in amputee care. Nick has children and knows the improved prosthetic would allow him to be more independent, less restricted and not so reliant on others for help. The improvement will allow him to play a more normal role in his children’s daily lives as they grow older.

Nick will be able to have a fitted partial hand that has sockets for fingers and a thumb. The cost of the fitted partial hand is £2,500. The cost of each finger attachment is £3,700. The cost of the thumb attachment is £9,500.

While our long-term aim is to raise enough money to buy Nick a fully operational prosthetic hand, just being able to buy the partial hand and a couple of finger attachments will make a significant difference to his independence and how he goes about his day-to-day life.

Nick is a keen golfer and member of La Moye Golf Club. As a start of an initiative to help buy a prosthetic hand for Nick four friends and fellow members will take up the challenge of playing 5 consecutive rounds of golf at La Moye on Monday 26 June 2023. This team challenge is expected to take around 15 hours.
