    Story

Ideally Hank needs a Hypophysectomy operation to remove his pituitary gland and benign tumour so cure his acromegaly.
You can read about the Hypophysectomy here:- http://www.rvc.ac.uk/small-animal-referrals/advanced-techniques-and-specialist-procedures/hypophysectomy

Meanwhile he started Pasireotide injections on 20/6/17 to reduce the effects of growth hormone that is causing his uncontrolled diabetes. Its early days but so far so good..

Hank lived alone in the woods most of his life. His black fur had grown thick and matted to help protect him from cold snowy winters. Harvest mites lived on his skin and when he hurt himself he just got by.

Hank fed himself by hunting mice, squirrels and pheasant. He used to watch two beautiful house cats being cared for by a kindly old lady until those cats died of old age. The old lady would feed the birds and sometimes Hank would eat the birdseed.

On 13/9/16 Hank realised he was seriously ill and instead of curling up to die, he crawled to the old lady for help.

The old lady dashed Hank to the RSPCA vet where they found he was blocked up with the bones he’d been eating. He had diabetes and acromegaly. All of which meant he would have died. But Hank and the RSPCA fought for his life. The vet named him Hank and it appears he’s about 10 years old.

Hank has been adopted by the old lady in the woods so he is able to live outside during the day because that’s what he is so used to and enjoys. Hank’s acromegalic legs are stiff with arthritis so he sleeps indoors at night. Hank quickly learnt the rules of living in a house. He was shocked to hear a TV and can’t get used to a soft bed. He prefers to sleep on the stone floor. He loves cuddles and jumps up like a gentleman every time the old lady moves. Mind you, that’s probably him hoping for food as the acromegaly condition makes him hungry all the time.

Hank used to hide from humans but he is so patient and affectionate with his carers, we want to help him.

This Crowd Funding page expires on 8/10/17. We clearly are not going to afford for Hank to have the Hypophysectomy operation. But he's doing very well on the Pasireotide monthly injections. So I plan to let this page expire and all £270 (less the site 5% fee) will go towards paying for the Pasireotide injections. If we get stuck again then I'll do another appeal as Hank will need these injections for the rest of his life. They are literally life saving.Thank you to everyone who has donated. Your support has made such a difference to Hank.

Best of luck! I highly recommend joining the Feline Acromegaly group on Facebook. I'm a member there. My lovely black Norton had acromegaly but passed away due to cancer in 2008.
