Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Hank was a friend and a beloved member of the Portobello Community for over 40 years. He was our unrelenting bastion of sub-culture and the paradoxical. Through his work at Alchemy, his music, a love film and all things incongruous; his life in the area introduced freedom, love and equality to generations.

At 18:58 on the 29th January, Henry 'Hank' Targowski passed away. He was with friends, with music and peaceful when he did. He left a legacy of experiences and relationships in a community that now wish to send him off with love and solidarity. It is with this that we gather together and intend to push our means, in order to support a funeral worthy of our friend.

Please help us raise what we need for the very basics, a cremation and funeral where we can pay our respects locally and in a style befitting a loved one (with chaos and humility, but most of all 'together').

We have one week to raise the funds and meet the costs. Thank you for your help.

    Lee "Scratch" Perry and Hank.

In April 1979, Perry received a visit from Hank Targowski, an impresario and owner of Black Star Liner distribution, a record company based out of Holland. Targowski wanted to distribute Perry's material, but was not prepared for the madness he would encounter at the Black Ark. Along with some associates, Targowski decided to attempt a salvage operation, trying to refurbish and restore the studio to working order. Financed by Black Star Liner, contruction work progressed throughout 1980, and new equipment was ordered and installed. By the spring of 1980, however, the restoration project was abandoned, and Black Star Liner's crew left Jamaica for good. What had been painstakingly rebuilt in the past year was vandalized, dismantled and destroyed by Perry.

      Update from the Page owner

Thank you all for donating to Henk's funeral. It took a hundred people to reach the target, but we made it. The funds will now be transferred to the funeral directors with thanks for a befitting ceremony on Sunday 12th February. I think we have Henk to thank for bringing a community together, both to celebrate his life and the people who cared... ...so thank you
