I'm raising £14,500 for Help To Make Ellie’s Garden her Safe Space🌿
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hey everyone,
I’m reaching out to ask for your help with something really close to our hearts.
We’re asking for help from our friends, family, and local community to raise the funds to give Ellie a safe outdoor space in her new home where she can simply be and is free to play, move around, and enjoy fresh air without the constant risk of getting seriously hurt.
Our daughter & stepdaughter Ellie is an amazing young woman who lives with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome which is a rare and severe form of epilepsy. On top of that, she has significant learning disabilities and mobility issues. She wears a helmet every day to protect her from drop seizures, and she walks on her tiptoes in barefoot as she is unable to wear shoes, which makes her really unsteady and prone to falls.
Ellie is getting ready to move into her own residential home, we are self-funding to make Ellie’s new home safe, however the garden at her new home is completely unsafe for her needs. The ground is uneven, there are hard concrete posts, no fencing, and nothing to cushion her if she falls. For someone like Ellie, this is a major hazard and at this point she can’t enjoy the outside of the home, which is something we want to change.
Up to this point, we have tried going through the proper channels for help, but unfortunately, the government has said no. And unfortunately, this is part of a much bigger issue in that our island doesn’t have proper residential facilities in place for adults with complex needs like Ellie’s. Her parents and family have had to pay to make sure the inside is suitable for her and continue to do our best to fill in the gaps and create a safe, supportive environment for her but now we are asking for your help too.
We’ve had quotes to make the garden safe for all year round, this includes soft astroturf, rubber matting and proper fencing but it’s expensive. So this GoFundMe is our next step, to support Ellie’s next chapter as there are not many safe places on this island that Ellie can walk about and play freely without hurting herself.
If you’re able to contribute, we’d be so grateful. Every little bit helps. And even if you can’t donate right now, sharing this would mean the world to us.
Thank you so much for reading and supporting Ellie. Let’s build her the safe garden she deserves 💜
With love,
Ellies Family xx
