Story
In Kenya, 51% of the population live in absolute poverty in a community where there is little income other than subsistence farming. People regularly contend with crop sabotage, infertile soils and drought and the average life expectancy is just 50 years old, a fraction of the life expectancy we are estimated.
My college has given me the amazing opportunity to work with the organisation Camps International, to help and support some of the most vulnerable people in Africa. I hope to visit Kenya to aid a community and work with the people there on projects such as building school classrooms for children, installing fresh water tanks in schools and villages to ensure that they have fresh drinking water, goat deworming to make farming more efficient and productive and making ethical elephant deterrents to protect crops, thus reducing poaching and increasing production. I will also collect elephant poo as the locals have devised an amazing way of turning it into paper to sell to support their families.
I would like to support this charity, not just because they are a worthy cause but because it will give me the chance to learn life skills such as team work as well as attempting to improve the world in which i live.
In order to fund this trip I have paid the £389 deposit from my savings. I need to fund raise another £3501 in order to fund this project. To aid this I am setting myself a goal of raising £800 by the end of November.
I am going to be making and selling craft items including jewellery and cards, hosting a series of events evenings, door to door selling of craft items, odd jobs such as dog walking, car washing and bag packing in supermarkets. I am also considering a sponsored event such as climbing Mount Snowdon, which will also serve as practice as i will be climbing Mount Kenya on my trip.
If you're able to support me in my endeavors I would be incredibly grateful and would welcome any amount of donations/ sponsorship that you could afford.
Thank you.
