Story

On 27th September, myself and Sian Owen will be taking on the Shrewsbury Half Marathon.

If you'd told me a few years ago that I would one day run a half marathon, I wouldn't have believed you. I only started running when my little boy turned two, as a way to support my mental wellbeing. Slowly, I progressed from Couch to 5K, then to 10K, but never imagined I would be running 21 km

Then my wonderful friend and colleague, Kath, told me that her daughter had signed up for the half marathon, and it planted an idea.

A number of years ago, Kath received the devastating news that nobody should ever have to hear. She was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer.

Throughout her diagnosis and treatment, Kath continued to work within the Education Team at The Princess Royal Hospital, showing incredible strength, determination and positivity. Sadly, she later received the news that none of us wanted to hear that her cancer had progressed and she is now on palliative care.

In May, Kath retired from work on ill-health grounds. I have been incredibly fortunate to learn from Kath, to work alongside her, to manage her at work, and most importantly, to call her a friend. Her courage, kindness and positivity is truly inspirational, and I am grateful for every moment of friendship and support she has given me.

By running this half marathon together, we hope to show Kath just how much she means to us by raising funds that will help her and her family create precious memories together during this time.

If you are able to donate, no matter how big or small the amount, Sian and I would be hugely grateful. Thank you for supporting us, and for helping us support our beautiful Kath and her family. ❤️
