    Story

As a first time mum I didn't know what to expect with the impending arrival of our gorgeous baby boy. On Saturday 24/09/16 one week over my due date It all began. We had been told by the midwife Freddie was happy and healthy and had a plan in place to ensure all went smoothly as I had a few problems with my asthma and low iron during pregnancy. Once labour started We rang the ward and after calling 3 times were finally allowed in with contractions 2 minutes apart . Once there things progressed quickly and it was discovered that Freddie was actually breech. He decided he wanted to make an appearance sooner rather than later and was well on his way only a few hours into labour. After a traumatic delievery with a number of errors made Freddie was finally in the world unfortunately as the doctors had made the wrong decisions Freddie had been starved of oxygen for 35 mins. Our brave little fighter and the neonatal team managed a miracle and got Freddie breathing and his heart working again. He was rushed straight to the neonatal unit where he was placed in a cooling jacket. We were told he wouldn't make it through the night and if he did he would be seriously brain damaged. To ours and the doctors suprise our gorgeous boy just kept fighting with the love and support from the amazing doctors and nurses on the neonatal unit Freddie surprised us day by day and we were so hopeful. Unfortunately the damage that was caused during the delievery was just to severe and the part of the brain that was damaged was the part that told Freddie to continue to breath. We had to heartbreakingly take him off his ventilator and wait for him to pass away peacefully. He fought for 13 hours and died peacefully in Our arms. We know Freddie had the best care during his short life and want to raise as much money as we can for this amazing unit to continue helping babies like Freddie. We have been let down by the NHS but will be forever grateful for the amazing work and care Freddie received.
