Story
This coming year I have the opportunity to participate in a gap year with Springs Dance Company. It offers training and development with a professional dance company in a strong Christian environment.
As well as my personal development, I will help run workshops in churches, schools and community groups so that many more people can access dance and all the benefits it has to offer. Personally this year will challenge me physically, mentally and spiritually.
Despite always having an interest in dance, I wasn't able to peruse it until I was thirteen. I started going to the after school dance club. My passion for dance grew, and my dance teacher encouraged me to take it for GCSE. During GCSE I was able to work on my technique but I was also given the freedom to choreograph. It was at this point that I then started using dance as a form of worship at my church. When I was worshiping it was always improvised. Through improvising I was able to see how dance can be used as a communication medium, as each movement can be used to express and explain different events and different dynamics can show different emotions. I want to be able to share people and help them to use dance as a communication medium. I feel I will be able to do this through the skills I will learn on this course.
