It was a cold and spooky Halloween night in late October (specifically around the 31st) when the incident occurred - the JCR had just been refurbished, and the wine and merriment were flowing. The room had been decorated with all manner of All Hallows themed adornments, and the occasion called for song. So, hearing the loud voices of the JCR that demanded karaoke, Hannah Torrance, Second Year PPEist, dove into the back of her bag and produced the magical antidote to our drunks woes: a laptop.
Members of the JCR sang long and hard into the night, as the dulcet tones of Robbie Williams and Cher drifted across Linton quad. Somewhere in the distance, a porter smiled.
Little did he know, however, that the ruckus causing and wholesome rabble rousing was soon to take a dark turn.
Nobody knows quite how it happened - perhaps a vessel perched just a little too close to the edge of a purple sofa, perhaps a slightly too enthusiastic gesticulation to the tune of 'All Star' by Smash Mouth, perhaps a series of domino like incidents that all lead up to one, single drink teetering on the edge of the table, swinging to and fro and then falling, falling falling, onto, into and around Hannah Torrance's Laptop.
Truly, this tragic tale of woe would not have been so bad had Hannah not needed to hand in an essay the next day. But lo, she did.
Now, though she is now using a spare, Hannah wants, and Hannah deserves the MacBook that we collectively ruined for her. Though it may have been nobodies fault, it's our responsibility to help fix it. Because when one of us falls, it's the Peter's way to come together and pick them back up again.
Also, we cannot afford to pay for it out of the JCR budget.
So please, give generously so that we can right the wrong done to poor Hannah and fix her laptop x
