Hello all,

We are a Granddaughter/Grandmother team aiming to do all we can to raise much needed financial support for a very special orphanage in Nepal. Earlier this year, we both visited the orphanage as volunteers. We found this the most humbling and inspirational experience - as these orphans and their carers were among the most lovely people we've ever met; so supportive of one another and so grateful for so little.

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and in 2015 was hit by a horrendous earthquake killing 9,000 people, injuring 22,000 and displacing 3.5 million people. The orphanage was founded nearly 6 years ago by a Swiss man who has now become unwell and unable to continue supporting the wonderful children, leaving them at risk of becoming destitute once again.

After seeing their lives with our own eyes, we must admit, that the situation was far WORSE than we had anticipated. The town they live in is crumbling everywhere you look and there are serious sanitation issues. They experience power cuts every single day (usually for hours on end) and have to collect rainwater to use for their washing, cooking and bathing.

Some of their backgrounds include: being dumped at the side of the road at 6 months old, having to live on the streets age 7/sifting through rubbish on the streets to survive, parents dying of alcohol poisoning and even being raped by their own father...

We know you are likely to be approached by many worthwhile causes and probably have specific ones you support, however, here you will know where your money is going. Also, luckily, in Nepal the cost of living is relatively low so a little money can go a long way. We cannot stress enough how wonderful these young people are and how horrific it would be to know that they were out on the street again, undoing all the great work that has been done.
