What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Let's bring beauty on tour for those going through cancer!

I am looking to start a social enterprise to help others who are going through the minefield that is cancer. I want to convert a van to create a luxury beauty salon that will provide high quality beauty treatments wherever my client prefers. It will be a safehaven that will provide a service for those going through treatment or who are post treatment for cancer.

As a previous cancer patient, I understand that apperance, alongside the worry of exposure to infections, are the main factors as to why a client undergoing cancer treatment may not venture out. By bring the salon to them I will be preventing them from the exposure of other salon clients, who may not realise the importance of their health, as well as improving their sense of wellbeing.

At 28, I was diagnosed with vaginal cancer. It was very aggressive and metastasesised to my lungs. For the past 2 years, I've had countless treatments to combat the cancer and for a period of time they've managed to stabalise it.

Throughout my diagnosis I have blogged about my treatments and the effects it has had on me physically and mentally. I've been trying to raise awareness in the importance of gynae health, as well as using it as an imformative platform for those uneducated about cancer and the treatments specific to me. I would like to now develop things further, by combining my wealth of experience in the beauty industry and my new knowledge and understanding of cancer. The beauty bus will not only help others it will provide a crutch of stabalisation for me in the hope that it will keep my cancer at bay.

Feel free to read more about my story with cancer here on my blog Happy Smiling Cancer Girl

70% of spas and salons in the industry have a blanket ‘no treatment’ policy for those who have cancer or are post cancer by 5 years.

The British Association of Beauty Therapy & Cosmotology (BABTAC) released a statement at the start of the year to clarify the situation. You can read more about their veiws on cancer and beauty treatments here.

Historically, therapists were advised not to treat clients with cancer, due to the unquantified impact this may have on the person's health and illness. Now however, clinical research highlights the benefits of massage therapy and other treatments for improving a client's overall sense of health and wellbeing, and there is no reason that they shouldn't enjoy treatments.

With a lack of understanding, therapists can unintentionally isolate those wanting a treatment due to the emotional impact it can have on the therapist. Cancer can come in many forms, and with therapists not having a good knowledge and understanding of it, they can feel intimidated by adapting treatments to suit cancer clients and not provide a professional and quality service.

With my extensive accreditations in beauty therapy, and a diploma in oncology beauty therapy, I will provide a personalised service for each client using products that will relieve the strains cancer and its treatments can leave on the body. With prior understanding of the effects that cancer can have mentally and physically, I can create a safehaven where a client will feel comfortable, without invading their personal space. I can also share my knowledge I have gained from cancer and put clients in touch with relevant charities or associations if needed.

If I had an extensive source of funding then I would love to convert an RV, however I think I'm being a bit too ambitious here! haha. So, I'm starting small and hopefully, one day, I'll be able to grow it so I can hit that goal and may be, if successful, have a fleet of beauty buses! ...too ambitious?
