Story

Emergency medical equipment Shipping

This is my grandad.

He suffered a stroke this morning Wednesday 29th November and because of the lack of medical care in Hargeisa, Somalia he hasn't yet been treated. He probably won't as he's been out cold like this since and has experienced a brain haemorrhage.

I write this at 21:24 GMT and grandad is still in a 'coma', except it isn't a coma because he isn't hooked to any life support machines but instead just lays in a hospital 'bed'.

This isn't because of neglect or lack of money to pay for hospital costs as that bed he lays in (while he bleeds without medication) was charged at $300 which is RIDICULOUS especially for a developing country where people live on less than $2 a day!

There is a MASSIVE problem, the biggest being that there is no medical equipment in hospitals! No life support machine, limited or expired medication and just broken beds and high prices!

Right now my ex British Seaman grandad just lays there, eyes closed, his body becoming ever more stiff, his brain dying from necrosis, just him deteriorating. He could've had a fighting chance if any of the hospitals were equipped but there are only broken beds and strangers with hearts vacant of hope wandering bare halls.

My grandad may not make it but somebody else can! To ensure that this does not happen to anyone else because of limited resources medical equipment donations as little as bandages and syringes to a CT scanner and an ambulance are required. However, shipping costs are charged by the kilo to ship goods from Europe to Africa.

Every year Millions of pounds worth of usable NHS medical equipment is thrown away into skips as garbage! The donation will go towards the shipping of the medical goods straight to public hospitals in Somalia to fully equip these care facilities with the main needs so no-one has to get used to dying from a cold.
