Who has inspired me?

Oliver Famili my best mate of 31 years.

In 2017 he was diagnosed with an incurable blood cancer called multiple myeloma. He was having back pains that got worse and after countless trips to the hospital and them not finding anything wrong with him he finally collapsed - it turned out he had 9 fractures in his spine and after further tests he was diagnosed with this cancer.

He was told it was a 1 in 5million chance for him at his age to get this, hows your luck!!

I’m not going to go into everything as I’ll be here all day but I’m sure you can imagine the last few years has been full of hospital appointments, operations, chemo, double stem cell transplants etc

But where Oli has turned into an inspiration is how he has dealt with this mentally, his positivity and drive and through all of this he still finds time to think of everyone else-I remember when I stayed with him at the UCLH when he was having his Chemo and in the middle of the night he was being violently sick, in between being sick he was saying ‘sorry H this is rough mate,sorry about this’

His mental strength is what inspires me and when I start to moan about certain things or think ‘I can’t do this’ ‘this is hard’ I can channel into how strong and positive he has been and I use that!!

I will be running the 2024 Paris Marathon to raise money for MyelomaUk and to also help to raise awarness along the way.
