Story

I'm a vet working in Kent raising £1,000 for Thorne hedgehog rescue to contribute to the building of a surgical theatre. As a vet I know how tricky it can be to treat wildlife especially in the rescue setting. The rescue often spent hundreds of pounds on surgeries but this can’t continue in the long term. I often find there can be difficulties faced with rescue centres and vets due to external factors, when it comes to treating wildlife coupled with a lack of experience and knowledge. This new hedgehog hospital will enable me and other vets to undertake surgeries on site and enable vet students to learn from vets who have experience with wildlife, whilst saving rescue centres money in the long term to enable the rescue of as much wildlife as possible. This is something really lacking in the UK but especially in Kent. This facility will also be open to all local rescues to enable wildlife in need to get the surgical attention they need in a timely manner. By having this facility available it will enable hundreds of hedgehogs to be treated on a yearly basis. In a world where we are encroaching on wildlife habitats by the day we need to do more to help them in their time of need, especially as many are now critically endangered. This centre will enable a long term future for wildlife in and around Kent.

I will be completing a bike ride on 31st May from Ramsgate to Whitstable in aid of this. Anything you can contribute to help would be greatly appreciated.
