Story

Hi

My name is Harry Allchorne. I'm just a regular 14 year old kid who is looking to make a difference. That's why in 2020 I will be travelling to Ecuador, one of the poorest countries in the world, for a four week expedition to help local communities and endangered marine life, and to take part in conservation projects to help reverse deforestation.

During my expedition I will be helping rebuild a community school kitchen in one of the highest and most remote areas of Ecuador. At the moment the children have their food cooked in a classroom which is incredibly dangerous and a massive fire hazard. In a country in which 25% of children have no access to education and are malnourished our aim is to make sure that the school has a safe and hygienic place to cook meals.

Another part of my expedition will involve helping to protect the habitat of the local marine life. Much of the local coastline is polluted and many species of marine life are endangered because of human activity. We will be involved in cleaning beaches near to a nesting site for green, hawksbill and leatherback turtles to help ensure their survival.

Did you know that an area the size of Spain is lost to deforestation in the Amazon every year? The final part of my expedition will involve planting trees as part of a reforestation project for the Amazon rain forest.

But I need your help... In order to get to Ecuador in 2020 and help others less fortunate than myself I need to raise a whopping £4,000 during 2019 to cover the costs of the trip. Please, please, please help me in any way you can. I will be arranging a number of fundraising activities along the way. If you are able to sponsor me, I will be very grateful for your support.

This will be a huge personal challenge for me and I've been told to expect a lot of manual labour... including digging foundations, cement mixing and brick laying! At the same time, it is sure to be a very rewarding experience and the adventure of a lifetime!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your generosity in helping a regular 14 year old kid make a big difference!
