Story

I am Harry Convey, I am 10 years old and I play cricket for Astley Bridge Cricket Club in Bolton.

The club has done a lot for me since I started my cricketing journey 3 years ago. I have made so many friends, have been guided and mentored by the most amazing coaches, and have been given so many fantastic opportunities.

However, as with many cricket clubs, they rely heavily on the generosity of volunteers and sponsors in order to provide a successful junior cricket programme for the local community.

But this only gets them so far and there is always more that can be done.

I have been lucky enough to benefit enormously from the kindness of others in my last few years at the club and I want to show my appreciation for this by doing my own fundraising challenge.

All funds raised will go directly towards new equipment and running costs for the Astley Bridge Bears Junior Cricket programme in order that they can continue to provide youths in the community with the most amazing facilities and opportunities to nurture their development.

I also hope to inspire my friends and other young children to challenge themselves to fund raise for worthy causes, to show them that they can make a difference no matter how young they are, and to show them how rewarding this can be.

So here is my idea…  I’ve called it “CHALLENGE 500”…

On Friday 22nd August, during the junior training session at the club, I will be running 500 cricket runs with an aim of raising £1000 in donations.

I plan to do this on an u11s wicket and IN FULL BATTING GEAR. This is a mammoth challenge for me and equates to a total of almost 5 miles!!

I would really love it if you could spare even just £1 to sponsor 1 run with a kind message of support to help me along the way. It would really mean a lot to me and to all the juniors at the club!

Thank you so much in advance - and wish me luck!!
