This page is a continuation from a previous page we ran to support Harry Mara and his family through his illness. All donations from this page will be used to help Harry's family deal with the day to day expenses of hospital trips, treats and days out to support them through this awful time, and basically to let them concentrate on their precious boy and his older brother Billy and take the edge off the financial side of things.
Harry was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive disease called ARPKD shortly after birth. Zoe, Harrys mum knew there was something wrong at a scan she had late into her pregnancy, but she never could have imagined the severity and probable outcome of the situation. The disease creates unremovable cysts on the liver and kidneys and impairs their function. This in turn puts a massive strain on Harrys other organs and causes swelling in his tiny body.
After recent tests Harrys family have been told that he has around 12 weeks before he will need to be on regular dialysis to help his body do what his own organs can't as they are starting to shut down and become ineffective.
Through this post we are looking for donations for the family but also to spread awareness about the disease which affects 1 in 20,000 births. As soon as Harry is 1 year old there is a chance he might be suitable for a transplant but this is subject to many variables and as is always the way...time.
